Alessandro Gramenzi

Born in Teramo on Oct. 13, 1967, he has been an associate professor of Animal Nutrition at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Teramo, since March 2005.

The teaching activity carried out concerns the nutrition and feeding of dogs and cats within the Master of Veterinary Medicine degree program and the Bachelor of Science in Animal Protection and Welfare degree program.

He has been scientific coordinator of the Level I and Level II Master’s degrees in dog and cat nutrition and feeding and dog and cat clinical dietetics, respectively.

He is a member of the Italian Society of Veterinary Sciences (S.I.S.Vet.), the Scientific Association of Animal Production (A.S.P.A.), the Italian Society of Buiatrics (S.I.B.) and the Association of Nutrition and Food Researchers (A.R.N.A.).

Prof. Gramenzi’s scientific activity, documented by relevant publications, many of which have been screened by Referees of international and national congresses and journals, consists of a range of research spanning the various fields of animal nutrition and feeding with a focus on pets.

The research activity, aimed at the study of problems specific to companion animals, is multidisciplinary in an attempt to integrate the characteristics of the individual, the breeding environment, management, nutrition and animal health.

In particular, the following issues were addressed and explored:

  • Study of the intestinal microbiota of the dog and cat
  • Evaluation of the efficacy of probiotics in animal nutrition
  • In vitro models for studying the gut microbiota
  • Role of omega-3 fatty acids in dog and cat nutrition
  • Nutrition and feeding of the sport horse
